Samsung first offered an affordable colour laser printer to the home user with the CLP-300 and they have now built on that and are offering an affordable multi function colour laser printer. Running costs are an important factor in the price bracket and the CLX-2160 is pretty good with a set of Samsung CLX-2160 toner cartridges costing only slight more than a set inkjet printer cartridges and giving the CLX-2160 a cost per page ratio of 1.8p black and 8.7 colours. This is competitive figure for black and slightly expensive colour but there are remanufacture Samsung toner cartridges available for the CLX-2160 which reduces the cost per page considerably. The CLX-2160 is amazingly small for a MFP laser and the built quality feels very solid and surprisingly good when you consider the price of the printer. Printing quality however is not so impressive, it good when printing mono but lacks clarity when printing colour, especially images. The is also true of the copying function which again works very well copying mono documents containing text and graphics but colour images are blotchy and leaves a lot to be desired. For a entry level budget printer the Samsung CLX-2160 is good, it does exactly what it is designed to do but it does none of these thing particularly well.
